How to make beer bread

Beer bread is another favourite South African recipe, and if made correctly it will go well with most dishes especially a braai/barbecue.

Ingredients

750 ml flour
5 ml salt
15ml Baking Powder

2 ml Bicarbonate of Soda
30 ml brown sugar
340 ml bottle of beer (your favourite beer)

Method

Pre-heat the oven to 180C  Grease a small loaf tin.
Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and bicarb together with the sugar in a mixing bowl.  Stir in the beer. You can add a little water if the dough is too dry.  Mix until all the flour has been moistened and the dough forms a cohesive mass.
Transfer the dough to the loaf tin, and place in the pre-heated oven.
Test with a skewer after about one hour when the top is golden brown – if the skewer comes out clean, remove from oven. Serve with plenty of butter.
NB – leave to cool for 10 minutes or so before you slice!!

You can also try to bake the bread on a open fire using coals, by placing the coals under, around and on top a black pot, another variation is to use a Weber to bake the bread.
